Here is some of the feedback we have received over the years from the users of our support groups.

I was very low, and had no specific neuro support before I contacted them. Knowing I have a zoom meeting coming up gives me a focus that support is there with folk who do not judge and understand, and I always feel energised and hopeful afterward. It has changed my life and continues to do so, and inspires me to want to keep improving and keep connecting with the wider world. I think ADHD Aware is a very special organisation. I feel so grateful.

Hearing from all of these incredibly talented, bright and unique people and their stories and struggles also inspired me back into education. So thank you ADHD Aware! I also feel like I finally found the other aliens 🙂

It's made a tremendous difference! I have met people like me, made and sustained friendships, understood both myself and others and generally felt that I do have a place in the world, whatever my neurodiversity is! It's been invaluable. I am totally enthusiastic about it. Thank you so much!

When the pandemic hit - their quick switch to zoom became a lifeline and stability for me - especially while dealing with family illness.

In a world that sometimes looks alien and strange, the meetings and ADHD help give me a secure space to share my experiences and feel much less isolated. Having people with similar struggles helps you realise that, even after all, you can persevere, flourish and be well, as many others lead with example, which is reassuring and gives us all hope.

Yes! It’s been great to know that I’m not alone in the struggles I have in managing my ADHD symptoms and really valuable for learning more about other people’s experiences and be more sensitive to other people

Feel less alone

I found out about ADHD Aware one year after being diagnosed at 32. It has made a huge difference to me as there is an overwhelming amount of information on the internet about ADHD, but a lack of understanding and acceptance in UK society/NHS. Physically, going to the drop in and the support group validated my experience of ADHD and made it real. The drop in was warm and welcoming with kind volunteers and provided just the right amount of information I needed at that point.

The monthly group sessions then added to this by providing a shared space built around different topics. In these meetings I learned about medications, types of therapies, coping mechanisms, dealing with family, strategies and easy books to read. Most importantly it provided the shared experience of having ADHDwith others and hearing their stories. When the pandemic hit - their quick switch to zoom became a lifeline and stability for me - especially while dealing with family illness.

Helped me with my feeling of isolation

It has massively broadened my understanding of which aspects of ADHD have a big impact and how to adjust them to my benefit. Of the good things about ADHD.
And it has helped me to process and shift a lot of emotions related to all this.
Also it has enabled me to be far more accepting of myself and to value myself much more.
What I’ve learnt has changed other people’s approach to me (most importantly - my family).
Life changing shifts!

Attending the two drop-in sessions has been a huge benefit in understanding my personal situation and realising ADHD has a very wide spectrum. Others share their history, experiences and coping strategies which I have found immensely useful.

Having been diagnosed when I was 74 - after somehow devising coping strategies (instinctively, since I had no idea why I always felt so out of step , over sensitive and much too open ) meeting up with this group - of all ages - has helped me understand the huge difficulties we all seem to have come across and how it has impacted our lives. As I live alone I find it very comforting to hear everyone else's stories.
